In the 1880's, women collected pretty colorful pictures an posted them in scapbooks. When the christmas tree became more popular in homes, the women used these pictures from their books to decorate the trees, thereby the teerm "Scraps". In the 1890's the German printers added tinsel, angel hair and glitter to the scraps creating the first "Victorian Scraps Ornaments"* -- Known today as die-cuts.
