Note that with the short waist length of this coat the vest shows at the bottom of the coat. This is normal and is the reason why many vests matched either the trousers or coat so that the vest would blend in and not be so noticeable at the waistline.  However, with the coat at left, a fancy white brocade vest is paired with the black coat and helps create a stunning outfit due to the contrast.
